I hope you will have an excellent new year and that you will be able to enjoy working DX. I have made an executive decision to begin our 3826 Net DX Challenge onJanuary 1st UTC. This "challenge" is not the 2012 ARRL Diamond DXCC Challenge (using the original 1937 DXCC list)--but contacts made with the 1937 DXCC entities can certainly count for our challenge.
We will begin our 3826 DX Challenge at 0000 UTC, January 1, 2012 (that's at 4 pm, today).
The main aspect of our DX Challenge is to see who can work 100 DXCC entities first in the new year. We will also recognize second and third place winners.
The basic guidelines for the "challenge" :
All DX is worked while running no more than 100 Watts output to a single element antenna which can be a horizontal wire, a vertical or some, basic variation (inverted "V" or an inverted "L," for example). Any mode may be used.
The current DXCC list will be used . Participants will be on the honor system. When 100 DXCC entities are worked, please forward the list of stations with QSO information (date, time, etc.), in the order worked, to me (Cabrillo or otherwise). Announcements will be made on the net,( and I will add them here.)
You might be interested to check out the ARRL Diamond DXCC Challenge information at: http://www.arrl.org/news/arrl-diamond-dxcc-challenge .
Here is a pdf of the original 1937 DXCC list: http://www.arrl.org/files/file/Diamond%20DXCC/DXCC75%20Entity%20List%20TABLE_12302011.pdf .
In the Diamond DXCC Challenge information, I found this quote interesting, since it relates to our challenge:
"...imagine how DXing was different in the early years of radio and DXCC! Working Tibet or Aldabra with 50 watts and crystal-controlled transmitters to simple wire antennas had to be a thrill like no other in that time for ham radio operators."
Please feel free to send this information to anyone who may be interested in taking on the challenge (copy & paste). I may have missed someone. Also, if there is something you would like to add or correct, please feel free to send me an email. I am human and often make mistakes (just ask Denise--or my father-hi).
I hope everyone enjoys the 2012 3826 Net DX Challenge! Good luck and good DX!
73, Rob KD7H
